Stroke

Our rehabilitation center is the only facility where we successfully break down spasticity and allow you to recover more function in your affected arm or leg. It does not matter how long ago you had your stroke. With our treatment you will continue to make progress. We see patients who have suffered strokes 10-15 years ago and they are recovering or making dramatic improvements.

We utilze a new, revolutionary treatment for stroke rehabilitation. We can permamently break down spasticity in your affected arm or leg with our approach. To achieve this we utilize Botox injections into the affected muscles.

When the Botox is injected into the muscle tissue, it decreases the release of acetylocholine (it is a neuro transmitter which conducts signal from the nerve to the muscle and tells it to contract). The injury to the neurons in the brain causes uncontrollable release of acetylocholine from nerve to the muscle, causing perpetual state of increased muscle tone called spasticity. The spasticity is the obstacle to recovery or progress. Our treatment gradually reverses this pathology and restores more normal muscle tone. Once we decrese spasticity to desired level, the strength in your affected arm or leg, movement, sensation and proprioception will gradually come back with time. Patients will have to exercise regulary to maintain their recovery and continue to improve on their own.  Some patients will need to continue to get Botox treatments to maintain functional status.

Your recovery is dependent on how severe the stroke was. We can safely state that about 50% of all the strokes can be fully rehabilitated. The remaining 50% will not achieve full functional recovery because of the severity of damage to the brain. You can only try to rehabilitate yourself to the best possible level.
